Out and About
Set in the thriving market town of Havant, the Wheelwright’s Arms is the perfect place to head to for lunch or dinner while you are exploring Hampshire’s rural coast or the nearby cities of Chichester and Portsmouth.
Most of Havant town centre is a conservation area, which developed from a junction of ancient thoroughfares dating from Roman times. Find out more about the town’s past by popping into Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, which is just a three-minute walk from us. The venue hosts many great music, theatre and comedy events, and is home to a free museum celebrating the history of the borough of Havant.
To the north of Havant, and a short drive from us, is Staunton Country Park, a 1,000-acre Regency landscaped parkland and forest. The park offers much for visitors to explore including an ornamental farm, an ornamental lake, a maze, a walled garden and incredible Victorian glasshouses. The park is a great setting for walkers, cyclists, anglers and orienteering groups, and it has a lot to keep the kids entertained, including a farm and a play barn.
If you fancy exploring the stunning wildlife, after relaxing and enjoying a meal and drink with us, it’s well worth the short drive to Langstone Harbour or the 30-minute drive to have a stroll around stunning Chichester Harbour. These are two of four natural harbours on the West Sussex and Hampshire coastline, and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy harbour boat tours, guided walks and plenty of other activities. Bird watchers will be particularly pleased to spot a number of internationally important species of wildfowl and waders.
