Out and About

Set in the thriving market town of Havant, the Wheelwright’s Arms is the perfect place to head to for lunch or dinner while you are exploring Hampshire’s rural coast or the nearby cities of Chichester and Portsmouth.

Most of Havant town centre is a conservation area, which developed from a junction of ancient thoroughfares dating from Roman times. Find out more about the town’s past by popping into Spring Arts and Heritage Centre, which is just a three-minute walk from us. The venue hosts many great music, theatre and comedy events, and is home to a free museum celebrating the history of the borough of Havant.

To the north of Havant, and a short drive from us, is Staunton Country Park, a 1,000-acre Regency landscaped parkland and forest. The park offers much for visitors to explore including an ornamental farm, an ornamental lake, a maze, a walled garden and incredible Victorian glasshouses. The park is a great setting for walkers, cyclists, anglers and orienteering groups, and it has a lot to keep the kids entertained, including a farm and a play barn.

If you fancy exploring the stunning wildlife, after relaxing and enjoying a meal and drink with us, it’s well worth the short drive to Langstone Harbour or the 30-minute drive to have a stroll around stunning Chichester Harbour. These are two of four natural harbours on the West Sussex and Hampshire coastline, and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Throughout the year, visitors can enjoy harbour boat tours, guided walks and plenty of other activities. Bird watchers will be particularly pleased to spot a number of internationally important species of wildfowl and waders.

Ten of us went for dinner on a Saturday night on one of our friend's recommendation. So glad we did! Busy place but the customer service was excellent and the food was absolutely gorgeous. If you haven't tried it yet, do it, it's definitely worth it! And the manager couldn't be more attentive, you can see he's very passionate and really cares about the place!

We decided to try the Sunday lunch after it had been recommended by a friend. The pub has changed all for the better since my last visit many years ago, very lovely decor and with the staff being so friendly and welcoming I felt at ease straight away! Mains were very well presented and tasted delicious. Very good selection of wines. All in all a very enjoyable few hours! We will return soon, can't wait to try the other dishes on the menu!

Popped in as was driving past to find a lovely setting, friendly helpful staff and on top of that delicious food which was good value for money. Lovely veggie options too, which makes a pleasant change in a pub. Cannot fault the place at all and will definitely visit again soon and recommend it to other people. THE place to go for Sunday lunch!

We booked for the two of us as we know you can have a nice meal in a nice setting with very good service at the Wheelwright’s. If you’re looking for somewhere with a bit of class in Havant, I highly recommend this place.

We've had our wedding at the pub last week and myself and my now husband have been very impressed by the service, the food and in general the hospitality of all the staff. A special mention has to go to David, the assistant manager, who couldn't be any more helpful, from helping to decorate the room, to getting the wedding cakes, taking the guests to the nearby hotel and just making sure the whole day has run smoothly. The food was to die for and everyone absolutely loved it, the buffet was just amazing and so much food it was incredible.
We've had a fantastic time and I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone that worked that day and made our wedding so beautiful.
